Staff Accountant
Join our client’s growing and well-established construction firm as a Staff Accountant. Reporting directly to the Controller, you will play a key role in supporting daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls. For a motivated accountant with strong fundamentals and advanced Excel skills, this role offers meaningful visibility, direct interaction with leadership, and the opportunity to contribute beyond transactional accounting. Construction experience is a plus, but strong accounting system skills and analytical ability are the true drivers of success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform monthly general ledger reconciliations and support month-end close processes.
- Prepare and post journal entries to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Assist in generating month-end financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) and backlog reporting.
- Track and reconcile prepaid expenses and ensure proper amortization.
- Manage state and local business licenses and prepare property tax filings.
- Collaborate with project managers to support accurate job cost reporting and job closeouts.
- Prepare and submit weekly wire transfers and assist with cash management activities.
- Assist with annual audit preparation, including schedules and reconciliations.
- Support ongoing improvements to internal controls, documentation, and ERP system functionality.
- Serve as backup support to accounting administrators and payroll when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of debits, credits, and general ledger processes.
- Strong ERP/accounting system experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis).
- Ability to work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Construction or project-based accounting experience preferred but not required.
