Controller

Join our client, a respected and mission-driven community health organization, in a key leadership role as Controller. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this position offers the opportunity to take true ownership of the accounting function—ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting while strengthening the financial infrastructure of an organization making a meaningful impact in the community.

For an accounting professional who takes pride in building order, consistency, and accountability, this role provides a platform to elevate processes, improve documentation, and enhance internal procedures that support both day-to-day operations and long-term success. As Controller, you will serve as a hands-on leader—assessing what is working well, identifying opportunities for improvement, and bringing a steady, thoughtful approach to strengthening the function. You will also play an important leadership role, supporting and developing an existing team while partnering closely with finance leadership. With a focus on systems, automation, and continuous improvement, this position offers the chance to make a visible and lasting impact while supporting a broader mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Maintain ownership of the general ledger and overall integrity of the accounting function
  • Strengthen accounting procedures, policies, and documentation
  • Support audits, cost reports, 990-related work, and overall compliance
  • Supervise, coach, and support an established accounting team
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process and broader finance support
  • Leverage Sage Intacct, automation tools, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and reporting quality

Qualifications

  • Strong accounting background with the desire to remain close to the work
  • Experience in a GAAP-compliant environment
  • Leadership ability with a coaching-oriented style
  • Comfort working in a mission-driven, community-focused organization
  • Interest in systems, automation, and continuous improvement
  • Healthcare, not-for-profit, grant, or regulated-environment experience is helpful
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; CPA is a plus
