Controller

GSB Search Associates has been engaged by a leading manufacturer of advanced materials serving the aerospace and defense industry to identify a hands-on, growth-oriented Controller.

The ideal candidate will take ownership of core accounting operations, contribute strategically to budgeting and forecasting, and help modernize systems and processes, including a potential ERP upgrade. This person will report to and work on projects with the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare financial reporting packages and maintain compliance with GAAP and DCAA standards.
- Manage balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and audit preparation.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and the annual planning cycle.
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, quality, and supply chain teams to support business decisions.
- Maintain and improve cost accounting practices.
- Play a key role in an ERP transition from QuickBooks to a new system (UniNet preferred).
- Contribute to ESOP accounting and other financial projects.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and government requirements.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred; degrees in Finance or Business will be considered with significant accounting experience
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to manage monthly close and financial reporting independently.
- Experience in DCAA accounting for government contractors is a big plus
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, macros) and experience with QuickBooks and ERP systems.
- Attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- A team player who is humble, motivated, and adaptable to new challenges.
