If you have extensive experience working on basic and complex 1040s, we would love to talk to you. The practice also has a significant amount of trust and estate tax work. If you have any experience, or simply the willingness to learn, with 1041s, that is a bonus.

Unique Benefits of the Firm:

  • Outside of tax season flexible schedule. Office hours from May through January are 9:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 9 am to noon on Friday.
  • The office is closed the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas

Responsibilities and opportunity to excel in the following areas:

  • Preparation of complex 1040s and responsible for review of less complex returns prepared by tax staff
  • Coach and develop staff members that are in the early stages of their career
  • Handle tax notices on clients’ behalf and communicate with the IRS and/or states as needed
  • Take calls from prospective clients and assist in the onboarding process
  • Work with clients on tax planning strategies including but not limited to tax projects, Roth conversions, and major tax law changes. And the ability to do tax research when needed
  • Build relationships with assigned clients. The firm works to have the same person work on a client’s return every year to help build understanding and trust of a client’s particular circumstances

Knowledge, Education, and Skills Needed to be Successful:

  • BS in accounting or a related degree is required. A Master’s in Accounting and CPA License is preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience preparing 1040s and experience preparing returns for a variety of states. Strong Kansas and Missouri state tax experience is preferred
  • Experience with complex K-1s
  • Experience with professional-level tax preparation software – Lacerte experience is a plus
  • Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify tax-saving opportunities
  • This is a full-time position that is onsite at the Overland Park, Kansas office. Technology is available to perform some work from home as needed
